A crowd of more than 30 club members joined together yesterday at the Takuvaine meeting house to bless the new gear and enjoy a celebratory kaikai afterwards.
Uniforms for both men and women on the TKV cricket teams were received from Australia as well as hats, balls, and bats.
“Today is a big day for the TKV club members. We have been waiting and looking forward to obtaining these uniforms for four years,” said Rire Mangere, president of the club.
He acknowledged the hard work of the club members and supporters, as well as the many families for the big job they have done to get ready for the cricket season.
Through much fundraising, as well as the support from their main sponsor, Papa Nooroa George, the patron of the club, they were able to obtain the gear.
“Papa Nooroa has been sponsoring us for 20 years, but we have never had full gears like how we have here today, so we are very happy!”
Mangere said. “We are always striving for excellence, and now with our full set of uniforms, I believe we are going to win.” Cricket season is set to start this Saturday.
