A year ago, on August 31, 2020, Luduina Williams launched “Plant Whispers” – her very own gardening tutorials – to share her knowledge of growing and caring for plants.
Earlier this week Williams celebrated its first anniversary with close friends and clients. Because of the current Alert Level 2 Covid-19 restrictions, the number of attendees were limited.
“But it was nice, I got to chat with each of the women and listen to their updates of their plants, it was lovely and everything flowed,” said Williams.
She started her business not long after her mother Lina von Hoff passed away. “Looking back, I thought of my mum who had encouraged me to do it,” she said.
Since its launch, Williams has had over 300 women attend her plant tutorials and is happy to see their planting successes.
At the relaxed celebratory occasion on Tuesday, the women shared their experiences and joy at seeing their flowers thrive.
“A woman admitted she talked to her plants every day… its good, I do and I sing to my plants as well,” Williams said.
“I was happy to hear how happy they are with the growth and blooms of their plants, something I’m happy to have achieved.
“It’s good to share your talents with others, to try and help others and not keep all your knowledge to yourself.”
Williams, Tutu Tini, Tutu Koteka, Takau Moeka’a and Miera Tapaitau took on the duty of cutting the cake, and plant talks ensued while the women enjoyed a shared meal under clear skies.
For those interested in signing up for Plant Whispers, gather a group of five people together and contact Williams to set a date.
“Gentlemen are also welcome,” said Williams. “For those men who are too shy to participate in a class with other women, I’m happy to do a class (of five) for them on their own.”
