Aitutaki anglers took out the 24th Gary Parlour Wahoo/Paara and fourth Goldie Goldie Mahi mahi fishing tournaments that were on the island over the weekend.

Aitutaki Game Fishing Club president Clive Baxter says it is the first time the two events were run together.

Prior to the competition not many fish had been caught on the island, which was also indicated in the numbers and sizes of fish caught in the tournament, said Baxter.

The total weight of fish weighed in for the Gary Parlour Wahoo/Paara and Goldie Goldie Mahi mahi fishing tournament was 476.4kg - 1 paara, 7 mahi mahi, 3 marlin, 5 tuna and 5 ono.

The Aitutaki Gary Parlour Wahoo/Paara fishing results are as follows.

Heaviest paara 1st 20.4kg Aitutaki Capt Pan Tuakeu, angler Una Tuakeu, crew Venice Sam onboard Mama Monster; Heaviest other species 13.2kg tuna  Aitutaki Capt. Ben, angler Taoirangi on board Mama Nina; Heaviest marlin 76.2kg Capt. Bra, angler Tekatau, crew Bra Jnr on board Kamaia. Heaviest aggregate weight 1st Kamaia 136.6kg, 2nd Kimiora 105.4kg, 3rd Mama Nina 74kg

The Aitutaki Goldie Goldie Mahi mahi Memorial Fishing Competition results are as follows. Heaviest mahi mahi: 1st 19.6kg Aitutaki Skippers/Anglers Mike, Rick, Marama, Boat Toa Moana, $1000 cash sponsored by Cook Islands Fishing Association; 2nd 18.2kg Mahi mahi, Aitutaki skipper Willie Bond on Mik Mik, $300 cash sponsored by CIGFC; 3rd 17.2 mahi mahi,  Aitutaki skipper Teiti onboard Miss Elani, $200 cash sponsored by Tepaki Baxter and family. Heaviest Aggregate 1st 20.4kg, $500 sponsored by CIGFC, Aitutaki skipper Blackjack Tuaiti, Tai Toko onboard Moonlight, Rarotonga Anglers Emily, Michelle, Lea, John, Buntu;  2nd 16.6kg, Aitutaki skipper Willie Bond onboard Mik, $300 cash sponsored by CIGFC; 3rd 13.6kg, Aitutaki skipper James Nolan onboard Wahoo, Rarotonga angler Ngu Marsters, $200 cash sponsored by Dick and Teina Marsters.
