Celebrating culture at Te Maeva Nui

Celebrating cultural diversity is an integral part of Te Maeva Nui festival. This evening at 7pm the International Night kicks off with performances from the local communities of Fiji, Indonesia, Kiribati, Chinese, Samoa, Tonga and the Philippines.

The New Zealand Maori Ngā Tūmanako Kapa Haka group that delivered a powerful performance at the float parade yesterday will also take to the stage this evening. Te Maeva Nui is an important celebration for Cook Islands people. It is a national culture and dance event held each year to celebrate the August 4^th anniversary of Cook Islands independence from New Zealand. It is a time for when the best of the best of cultural items are performed and fiercely competed. Pictured is the Palmerston island float parade.
