Good road race results

The first official road race was held last Thursday, with 11 athletes trying all distances.

With the courses being measured and pretty accurate, some great times and competitions resulted.

In the men’s 8km race, with Phil Washbourne having moved back to NZ, the rights for first place, not second, are now being strongly contested.

A sprint finish decided the first two positions with Roland Neururer edging out Scott Howley for first place while third place getter Brian Toncray was hot on their heels.

A similar situation happened in the 5km girl’s race, with the breakaway made in the last 50m.

The 5km loop, which also forms the first part of the 8km race, drew no criticisms, with its generally flat road, before taking on a short sharp hill, and then enjoying the next kilometre downhill, followed by a slight rise and then rounding the corner to sight the finish line or end of the first 5km.

This week’s race will be a repeat of last week’s distances, which is a choice of 5km or 8km, and a 3km course also available for those who want to keep it short.

See you there at 5.15pm, outside the Kafe Kokonati, Matavera.
