Teei loses, sets career path

Twenty one-year-old rising tennis start Brittany Teei (pictured) knows exactly where she wants to take her tennis and the Delhi Commonwealth Games was a stepping stone in the right direction.

Teei has ended her Delhi games campaign wiser and more determined to reach her ultimate goal of playing in a Grand Slam event such as Wimbledon.

She began her tennis campaign at the Games this week with a win over her opponent from the Maldives which lasted just half an hour.

On Wednesday she faced Sania Mirza the number two seed at the Games, and India’s number one tennis star, who was earlier this year ranked 27th in the world but due to injury had dropped down to rank number 130.

Despite going down 6-0, 6-2, Teei believed she could have won the game, which has opened her eyes to the area of her games she needs to improve on.

Teei won gold, silver and bronze at the 2009 Pacific Mini Games in Rarotonga and is gearing up for the Caro Bowl series – an interclub competition in Auckland.

She will play for her Remuera club over the next seven weeks leading up to ranking circuit where she hopes to achieve her first ranking.

Meanwhile, the young star is just thrilled to have represented the Cook Islands at the Commonwealth Games and looks forward to seeing more of India before returning to tennis training and working towards her goals.
