Southern group islands’ schoolchildren can expect some exciting new PE activities when they return to school after the holidays.
Teachers from all southern group schools have been learning new ideas at this week’s PE workshop with Katie Rogers from the ministry of education.
On Tuesday they gathered at the Nikao Social Centre to learn how to make their PE classes a whole lot of fun, and completed a number of fun team-building exercises including building and sailing a raft. This activity called for lots of thinking and resulted in plenty of laughs.
Teachers have also had visits from a number of national sports federations who helped them understand their sport.
Cook Islands Rugby Union chief executive officer Ben Koteka took the teachers for a crash course in rugby with the aim of educating teachers on the rules of the games in order to better inform their students during PE classes.
