Golden Oldies enjoy a great day

The Nikao field rumbled with laughter on Saturday as the Mongoose Golden Oldies club hosted the Glamour boys to an afternoon of 20-twenty cricket.

The tournament was also in honour of Colin Munokoa, a cricket lover, who died two weeks ago.

The Mongoose members were out in force for the tournament and had to lend a number of players to make up the Glamour Boys team – who were made up of former Grammar school students including a number of young players currently attending a grammar school in New Zealand.

There were big hits and great bowling seen with the Glamour Boy winning the toss the opting to bat first.

The Glamour Boys got off to a disastrous start when Tua Pittman achieved a never seen before ‘double duck’.

He was bowled out in what was deemed a ‘trial’ ball then again when the first ‘real’ ball was bowled.

Despite the bad start the Glamour Boys posted a huge 151 runs to give the Mongoose a challenging 152 runs to chase.

And despite their best collective efforts – the Mongoose side fell short by 23 runs reaching just 128 runs to give the Glamour Boys the win.

It was certainly an enjoyable day for all involved with Shane Thompson of the Avatiu cricket club and Kori Patia of the Matavera cricket club providing equipment and umpires for the afternoons game.
