Golf tourney brings out the best

The B&M Wholesaler’s Golf Tournament last Saturday brought out the best in many of Rarotonga’s golfers at the Rarotonga Golf Club.

This popular tournament was well attended by Cook Islands golfing fraternity who were blessed with great golfing weather on the day. There were a lot of golfers who broke their handicaps and some of the credit for this must go to the ground staff who have got the course in such good condition.

Being closely in touch with every part of the course certainly paid off for head grounds man Sonny Karati, who shot a 67 off the stick to win the prize for best men’s round of the day. Sonny also won first prize for the best men’s stableford and best overall stableford with 43 points.

Sonny won on a count back from young Aitutaki player Leo Roa, also on 43 who just missed out courtesy of a double bogey on the 17th. Third prize in the men’s division went to Paara Pitomaki.

For the ladies, Taiora Henry had the round of the day with an 81 off the stick. The stableford for the ladies was won by Teremoana Hardie with 42 points, followed by Leanne Kiria (40) and Tania Karati (39).

This Saturday is the first round of the Rarotonga Golf Club Championships. Maybe this is why so many people played well last Saturday. A lot of people are hitting good form at the right time. Golfers are reminded that this is a four round competition of which the best three rounds are counted.
