Its D-Day for Sevens in Heavens teams as the play-off for top places gets underway at 9.30 this morning.

Impressive on field battles at the BCI Stadium have been seen over the first two days of the tournament and things are expected to be even more explosive today.

One of the standout features of this year’s tournament has been the high standard of women’s games, which provide just as much classy action as the men’s games.

College Rifles women’s team, which includes a number of feisty and speedy 16-year-olds, and the experienced Titikaveka Rehab Ravens who include three current New Zealand Black Ferns are the teams to beat in the women’s division.

The local T&M Crushers are also impressing the crowds and playing with the confidence that could carry them to the grand finals.

T&M Crushers did the damage against their fellow sisters from Avatiu with a convincing 26-0 win while College Rifles beat Waitakere Nesians 19-0.

In the men’s division – the competition just continues to get better as players sharpen up their skills, but fitness is going to be a big factor in what will be a long day today for players.

Fijian team Tabusoro, Titikaveka Razorbacks, Tauae Bulls and the Rebels are all in fine form and lead their pools in the tournament.

Defending sevens champions the Rebels followed up their first up 40-0 drubbing of the Porirua Magic on Thursday with another win yesterday against the Flying Dragons 12-10 – but they were made to work hard by the Dragons.

The star studded Tauae Bulls ran rings around Aitutaki yesterday but they only scored their first try on the half time hooter against the outer islanders.

With the score 5-0 to the Bulls at half time – the team returned to the field with purpose and ran away with the win 20-0.

Te Ara Wheke were defeated by local the local boys from Avatiu while the wild west Cowboys outfit struggled against Hastings who won 21-0.

Friday was another good day at the office for the Tabusoro Fijian team who stormed Porirua Magic 31-5.

The Razorbacks’ three tries was enough to defeat the Melbourne Valley Reds 15-0.

Games ran up until 8 o’clock last night and the action begins again today at 9.30am.

The first four games of the day will be the women’s play off before the men’s bowl quarter finals begin at 10.42am.

The semi finals are scheduled to start around 2.18pm and the spectators dash for cash will run at 3.30pm.

The CITC dress up competition will be at 5.18 and the grand finals are at 7.10 for the women and 7.40 for the men.
