Room 5 pupils at Avatea Primary School were given reading homework according to their ability level.

Here are some of the works they have produced under different themes– writing about an animal, writing a diary or journal entry and reviewing a book.

My trip with Tom Jones

I put my multiple seat belts on and everything went silent.

All I could hear was the counting down in the background 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 Blast Off!

Just then my heart stopped!

I did not know whether it was the 700 pound gorilla feeling or the exhilaration.

I was so excited.

As soon as I was out of the Earth’s atmosphere the weight was lifted literally, like I weighed nothing.

I undid my seatbelt. Next thing I know I was floating. Then we got to the moon. I just froze up but in an exciting way, not in the cold way. We played golf but no-body won because the ball kept floating away. We got back in the rocket ship. Next stop, Home!

Duck

As the sun comes up, a duck swims in the pond

Her beautiful feathers shine in the sun

As she sits there and waits for a small fish

She has to dive quick as the fish swims fast

She dives down deep to catch them with her bill

She waddles off from the pond to sit on the grass

It’s a beautiful day

Many people walk past

They sit on the seat and feed her some bread

She waddles over and bows her head

When she’s finish she thanks the kind people

With a quack she flies back to the pond

And when night falls

She rests her sleepy head under her wing

She falls asleep with a full tum and dreams

My Trip to Outer Space

Entry 1: The blast off was shaky and my heartbeat rose. It took us a few weeks to get to space but I tell you, it was amazing.

Entry 2: We had a clear picture of the Earth. It was beautiful. It was like being in a whole new world

Entry 3: When we got further into space, it just got more ex-citing by the minute. I could float anywhere I would like to. It was fascinating.

Mystery of the Great Stones

Some possible answers to the mystery: Religious festivals, Rituals, Place of Sacrifice, Altar, Observatory for seasonal time keeping.

The great stones are still a mystery today. Some possible answers can be seen in the table above. Stone circles are different from Stonehenge as their layout and sizes are dif-ferent from each other. An example of the differences would be the stone circles could have been set up for religious festivals or ceremonies. The flat rocks in Stonehenge could have been a place of sacrifice or a place set for rituals or even an altar.
