Puncture spoils her race

The body and mind were willing, but a punctured tyre forced local triathlete Kelly Pick (pictured) out of the New Zealand national triathlon series in Kinloch, Taupo, at the weekend.

Pick raced in the elite women’s division over a super fast course comprising a 750m swim, 20km cycle and 5km sprint.

Pick began the race with an 11.52 minute swim time before heading out on the technical cycle leg.

But her race was cut short when her bike tyre punctured.

Although understandably disappointed with the outcome of the race, Pick’s ultimate goal at the race was to gain more triathlon experience and to showcase her multisport skills in what is only her third triathlon season.

The race, held on Sunday, was Pick’s first time of racing a sprint course and no doubt it won’t be her last.
