Sports people on Aitutaki are gearing up for the Easter volleyball tournament sponsored by Cook Islands News.
The volleyball tournament was rescued by the national daily paper last year after hearing that the annual volleyball tournament could not be held due to lack of funds.
It was decided that the tournament would be a recovery project for the island after it was struck by cyclone Pat in February last year.
More than 50 teams registered in various divisions for the one-day competition that went a long way to give Aitutaki islanders some relief from recovery work after the cyclone.
The tournament will run again this year and is being planned to be held on Easter Monday, April 25, at the Araura College grounds.
Team registrations are now open and any teams on Rarotonga who think that they’ve got the skills to take on Aitutaki teams are encouraged to ‘bring it on’.
Tournament divisions are under 13 boys and girls, under 16 boys and girls, open men and women and the ever popular mama and papa division for players 40-years and over.
Team registrations are $30 with fantastic cash prizes up for grabs.
Aitutaki Sports Association president Rere Mataiti, who is organising the tournament, is still ironing out details and for more information he can be contacted via email on rere@aitutaki.net.ck
Teams on Rarotonga can contact Robert Graham on 55100.
Registrations for the ever popular tournament close on April 21.
