Cook Islands athlete representative Julianne Westrupp is attending the Oceania Athletes Commission board meeting in Auckland as a board member.

Westrupp will be updating the board, chaired by New Zealand Olympic medallist Barbara Kendall, on achievements by Cook Islands athletes over the past year and presenting them with proposed sports events in the Cook Islands for this year.

The commission serves as a consultative body and is the link between active athletes and the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The chair of the athletes’ commission serves as a member of the IOC executive board and makes recommendations to the IOC’s executive bodies.

Plans are in the pipeline for Cook Islands members on the athlete’s commission to become more proactive and accessible to sports codes that need their help and support.
