Team Cook Islands will be holding a market day today at the grounds opposite the Banana Court in Avarua.

The go green go for gold market day is to raise funds for the 170 athletes who will represent the country at the Pacific Games from August 27 to September 10.

Most of the 13 sports codes that make up Team Cook Islands will be at the market day selling plates of food, Go Kuki supporters t-shirts and the teams monster raffle from 10am to 3pm.

Sports demonstrations will also feature through the market day including weightlifting and boxing demonstrations.

The market will include 20 stalls selling foods, arts and crafts from the outer islands teams on Rarotonga for the Te Maeva Nui celebrations.

Arts and crafts people on Rarotonga will also be part of the Team Cook Islands Go green go for gold market day.

Team Cook Islands is proud to be a green team with some of the team athletes selected as litter champions to promote environmental awareness messages.

The first group of litter champions are Odile Pauka representing CISNOC, golfer Kirk Tuaiti, sailor Junior Charlie, female soccer player Elizabeth Harmon, paddler Roland Maru and womens rugby sevens player Julz Westrupp.

August 6 has been earmarked at national go green day where a number of activities including tree planting are planned.

All sports associations and codes are encouraged to jump on the go green band wagon by improving energy savings, recycling and decreasing waste, and everyone on the island for Te Maeva Nui is encouraged to help the team at the go green go for gold market day today.
