Accountant Helen OMeara has resigned as the financial controller and treasurer of the Cook Islands Sports and National Olympic Committee (CISNOC).

The committees financial woes have been highlighted this week in a letter to all national sports federations signed by CISNOC secretary general Rosie Blake.

In order for Team Cook Islands to compete in the upcoming Pacific Games in Noumea, CISNOC needs a government loan.

Its executive board has approved resolutions in order for the loan to be implemented and is asking for ratification from national federations.

Cabinet is expected to discuss CISNOCs fiscal status and the loan proposal this morning. The federations are meeting at midday tomorrow at CISNOCs Maraerenga offices.

OMeara says she will not discuss CISNOC finances now she has resigned.

Accountant and former collector of revenue for MFEM Geoffrey Stoddart, who is the federation representative for triathlon, says he is concerned about the apparent lack of a solution to repay any government loan.

I dont see any solution in the proposals for where the repayment for the proposed loan is going to come from.

Soccer federation representative Lee Harmon says Blakes letter has come as a shock.

We are pretty surprised to learn that all of a sudden there are not enough funds to send the team across.
