Clubs combine

Oe vaka clubs have agreed to join forces at this years Vaka Eiva.

The proposal has been floated in past years but never garnered unanimous support.

At a meeting on Wednesday evening, Live Free, Ngakau Toa Vaka, Te Tupu O Te Manava and the Cook Islands Canoeing Association accepted the proposal.

The proposed Rarotongan crews will compete in open mens and womens races. Anyone interested in being part of the national crews is welcome to trial.

A meeting for women interested in trialling will be held at Raro Fried Chicken at 4.30pm today. The mens meeting has been postponed until further notice.

Selection criteria and coaching roles will be discussed at each meeting.

Vaka Eiva is about competitive participation. We want as many locals as possible to be involved, but we also want to test ourselves against the best, said CICA member Tina Newport.
