Two duathlon courses are on offer today for the weekly meet at Panama starting at 5.15pm.

For those feeling like a light exercise a short 2km run, 8km cycle and 1km run is on offer and for the more energetic a 2km run, 16km cycle and 2km run will be available.

Two triathlon courses are also on offer this Saturday at the Tikioki triathlon site.

The short course includes a 2km swim, 8km cycle and 2km run and the longer course covers a 4km swim, 16km cycle and 4km run.

Next Saturday (December 10) a memorial cycle ride around the island will be staged in honour of the late Pauline Atera.

Atera died tragically on Sunday morning after being hit by a car while out on her usual cycle ride around the island.

The triathlon association has been shocked by her death and in honour of the triathlete affectionately known as Granny the association hopes the memorial ride on Saturday will help raise awareness of the need for better road safety especially around cyclists.

The public is urged to be mindful of cyclists on the roadside as they have every right to be there and should be given space and courtesy on the road.

The memorial ride is open to anyone and will start at 2pm with more details to be firmed up next week.
