National sailor Helema Williams is all focus this week as she races in the Audi World Championships this week – the final Olympic qualifying regatta in Germany.

Last week fellow Olympic hopeful Taua Eliza ended his campaign and while he has not qualified for the London Olympics he placed 31st in the 56 strong bronze fleet at the championships.

”The racing was fantastic! I have gained places throughout this regatta and learned heaps from watching and racing against the best in the world,“ says Eliza.

Eliza says that the competition has given him a better understanding of the weak areas of his race that he will improve on in future races.

”Sorry everyone, I tried my best, but I have not qualified our country,“ expressed a humble Eliza.

He would like to thank coach Ben Paton for his hard work in preparing the sailors for the event along with John and Anne Tierney and Rory Quirke for their staunch support.

The Manihiki sailor would also like to thank all the families, friends, sponsors, Sailing Cook Islands and the community at large for their support.

Eliza now turns his focus on supporting fellow sailor Helema Williams as she competes for an Olympic spot.
