Air New Zealand staff cycled, swam and ran their way to better health last week with a special triathlon organised to promote fitness and wellbeing among staff.

All-round athlete and Air New Zealand staff member Paulina Beddoes designed a short triathlon course in Nikao to challenge her colleagues.

Over 40 Air New Zealand staff gathered at a Nikao section to push their bodies through the short course which conincided with a visit by the airline’s wellbeing manager Judith Young.

Air New Zealand manager David Bridge, a fitness enthusiast and champion of good health and exercise, lead by example and got in on the action.

Young returned to the island last week to undertake full health checks for all Air New Zealand staff on the island.

“I’d love to help run events like these all the time, they’re just fantastic,” says wellbeing manager Judith Young.

The checks include blood pressure tests, cholesterol and blood sugar level tests and a heart risk profile.

All of the airlines 58 staff have been tested and Young commented that this week’s wellbeing programme has been of great value in terms of fitness and lifestyle awareness.

The mini triathlon was a huge success in promoting regular exercise and Air NZ staff are keen to make it a regular event.
