The Ngatangiia-Matavera Dragons continue to dominate the CITC club rugby competition after giving the Avatiu Eels a lesson in consistency at the weekend to win the match up 11-8.

The Dragons headed in to the match as the competition leaders ahead of the second placed Eels and proved why they head the table.

With their band of loyal and vocal supporters in full cry, the team looked at ease at the home of the Eels where they showed a more structured game than their opponents.

While the Dragons certainly looked slick with Willie Kauvai leading the talented team – the Eels had a mixed squad of veterans and under-19 players which can only become stronger as the young charges learn from the more experienced heads.

The Dragons will take on the Titikaveka Bulls this weekend in what should be an interesting match-up.

The Bulls are never to be underestimated and head into their match against the Dragons smarting after their 33-14 defeat at the hands of the defending club rugby champions, the Tupapa Panthers.

The Bulls held the Panthers to a 7-all draw at half time before the experienced Panthers blew the scoreboard open.

The Bulls will be dangerous this weekend as they look to get their train back on the right track and will face a confident and disciplined Dragons side.

The Eels will face the cellar-dwellers, the Takuvaine Reds, and no doubt will unleash their power on the Happy Valley boys who are known to be giant killers on a good day.

The Eels will still be licking their Dragon burn and the Reds could well plan to rub salt in their wounds.

The Reds have caused some major upsets in the past, with their win against the defending champion Panthers side serving as a warning to other clubs to never underestimate the Happy Valley team.

The Reds head into their match against the Eels after a bruising encounter with the Arorangi Cowboys at the weekend.

The Cowboys reined in the Reds to beat them 19-3 and now set their sights on the Panthers.

The Cowboys and Panthers match this Saturday will be another bruising encounter and will be the main CITC match of the week.

There will be no love lost between in this match and spectators can expect to see sparks fly between the sides.

Before the weekend game though – the under-16 Powerade grand finals will be held apopo (tomorrow) between trophy holders the Cowboys and challengers the Bulls.

Get your club colours on and get out to the rugby fields and cheer on your team.
