CISNOC meeting off

The organiser of a special general meeting that was due to take place tonight is not disappointed after it was cancelled at the 11th hour.

A third consecutive deferment of the Cook Islands Sports and National Olympic Committee (CISNOC) saw former Mauke sports association representative Hugh Graham serve notice to CISNOC about a special general meeting due to take place tonight at the Takuvaine AOG hall.

There were two propositions put forward to the 22 members who agreed to the continuation of the special general meeting (SGM). The first was for it to go ahead as planned and the second was to schedule a separate SGM that would have one motion – to vote on the complete removal of the board.

But yesterday’s stunning reversal meant not only was there no SGM scheduled for tonight, but the deferred annual general meeting (AGM) would be taking place on August 23.

”I’m not embarrassed at all. In actual fact, I feel – as those who signed initially – we proved Auntie Rosie [Blake] wrong in her statement that many of the national federations asked for it to be deferred.

”This is why this kerfuffle started – simply because we didn’t want the AGM to be deferred again.“

Considering legal action as the executive board had done was never in the interests of Graham and the sports federations. There is one thing the group will continue to do.

”We’re taking Dan [O’Brien] and [acting president] George Paniani to task – the AGM will definitely be held on the 23rd of August regardless.

”We just want to get on with the meeting and have it.“

Graham revealed some members were finding the whole process frustrating and were considering leaving the organisation and the sporting body.

”That’s the last thing we want. We have some good people out there but they’re getting frustrated.“
