The feisty Avatiu-Nikao Cricket Club have made significant changes ahead of the Computer Man Twenty-20 Competition.

A switch of captain will see Melody Melota take over the reins from Hamish Weir.

Melota has had a meteoric rise since his return from New Zealand, including selection into this year’s International Cricket Council East Asia Pacific elite training squad.

Weir will remain with the club but says the time was right to step aside for Melota.

”Mel is a great leader, he is young and offers a good deal to the club and the nation, he will do an exceptional job.“

Weir, who is in his last season with the club, adds the future success of the club depended on sustainable decisions and supports Melota’s appointment as a ”good thing“.

Melota’s first test will be away to last year’s champions the Titans in Titikaveka on September 8. To join Melody’s men contact him on 57128 or visit the Cook Islands Cricket website.
