Vaka Takitumu is currently leading in the women’s vaka 10s rugby competition after winning their last encounter against the Vaka Puaikura on Monday.

Takitumu managed to edge out the tough and tenacious Puaikura team 19-17 in a tight battle at the BCI Stadium.

Olympic sprinter Patricia Taea played a key role in the Takitumu win with Iro sisters Jojo and Koti wreaking havoc in the forwards combat.

Puaikura managed to contain Taea in the first half and lead through some slick combinations and tries to Awhitia Pepe, Jamie Gotty and Marion Larsen, however Taea sliced her way through two tackles mid-field in the second half to score under the posts and give Takitumu the win.

The third game of the women’s vaka 10s competition will be played this Friday at 5pm at the BCI Stadium between Puaikura and Te-Au-O-Tonga.

Any women and young girls interested in joining the competition can contact women’s rugby coordinator Lara Sadaraka on 55714 for further info.

Get along to the BCI Stadium this Friday and support local women’s rugby.
