Job streamlining at CISNOC

One of CISNOC’s two vice-president seats could be extinguished as a result of a proposed special meeting to analyse and approve changes made to the organisation’s constitution.

It comes after the sports body appointed David Lobb to the position of treasurer at the last executive board meeting held on September 10.

Lobb and Damien Beddoes were elected as vice-presidents at the organisation’s annual general meeting last month.

The athletics representative then stepped up and put his name forward for the role of treasurer, which he has previously held with Athletics Cook Islands.

Lobb is a former secretary general for CISNOC.

President Hugh Graham confirmed the move and said the seat vacated by Lobb would not be filled because of a proposed special meeting focusing on acting on some of the recommendations made by the constitution review committee at the AGM.

Included in the recommendations is a reduction of executive board members, there would be two votes each by the island sporting associations and national federations to ensure a majority over the executive board, as well as a merging of the CEO and secretary-general roles.

“What I’ve asked the board is we do not fill the position for the simple reason that hopefully by next month we’ll be in a position to call a special meeting and endorse and vote on some changes to the constitution as per the requests of our member federations,” Graham said.

He was coy about how many executive members would go should the changes be approved.

“In terms of what form that will look like, we’re still to receive a couple of options. I’ve asked Dan’O’Brien to send through a couple of options to have a look through before we send it to members to have a look at.”

Graham also confirmed the eight commissions at the sporting body have been halved.

“We downsized that to four because we felt a lot of them shared the same similarities to work smarter.”

The president confirmed the positions of chef-de-mission and team managers will also be advertised to ensure the best possible candidate for each trip was found.

“The conditions are very flexible but the main reason is to be more transparent and to choose the best person.”
