The Ngatangiia sports field was abuzz with eager mini triathletes on Friday.

Parents were also out in force to cheer on the 97 Kids Tryathalon competitors in the fun event organised by level one triathlon coach Vanessa Palmer and her team of volunteers.

The number of kids taking part nearly hit 100, however three little racers turned up after the start hooter.

All the kids swam, cycled and ran their hearts out in the event organised to give kids the opportunity to try out the multi discipline sport in a fun environment.

As kids raced, parents raced alongside them encouraging them all the way from the water to the bike and on to the run leg.

While some kids beamed with thrill others had their game faces on, especially those kids that put in hours of training before the event.

All racers entered into the fun and hugely successful event received a Weet-Bix t-shirt for the race and a shiny medal at the end, thanks to Sanitarium.

Fantastic prizes were also handed out to the kids, courtesy of sponsors and supporters who saw the value of introducing the sport to Rarotonga children to promote an active and healthy lifestyle.
