Aitutaki based national women’s cricket squad members have been receiving a tremendous amount of support from their community as they prepare to represent the country in Vanuatu next month.

The Aitutaki women have been in training since March and have progressed very well with the help of Cook Islands Cricket chief executive officer Alister Stevic, Daniel Tutai, Teararo Paraia and Papa Tiki William.

“It’s a pleasure to see our girls working very hard. The girls train every morning from 5.30am Monday to Friday and from 9am to 1pm on Saturday,” says Twin Ruarangi.

Ruarangi says that the girls held a fun run on Monday as part of their fundraising efforts to raise funds to get to Rarotonga and then on to Vanuatu as well as to assist with accommodation, meals and transport costs.

The Aitutaki women cricketers are asking for all the people of Aitutaki on the home island plus those who are living on Rarotonga to help and support the team’s efforts in training and fundraising.

Ruarangi would like to thank the people of Tautu for the use of their sports ground, netball court and the Mata-Poea-e-te-ra community hall for their daily training and activities plus Araura Television and Radio for their full support from day one.
