Tennis is set to spread like wildfire across Rarotonga schools as the ‘tennis in schools’ programme, sponsored by ANZ Bank, starts today.

The programme will run for the next five weeks under national tennis coach Malcolm Kajer and assisted by enthusiastic sports coach of the ANZ Tamariki Sports Programme Ake Hosea-Winterflood.

The pair expect to teach hundreds of Rarotonga kids in grades one, two and three basic tennis skills offering them chance to give the sport a go.

The tennis in school programmes will run at national tennis courts in Nikao and those schools that are unable to travel out to Nikao will have the coaches’ travel to them to share the fun of tennis.

This free in schools programme is all part of the development of the sport on the island, however those parents who have kids already keen on tennis can receive extra coaching from Kajer after school.

Schools signed up for the fun tennis in schools development programme include Nikao Maori School, Imanuela Akatemia, St Joseph’s School, Rutaki School, Arorangi School and Takitumu School.

If you would like your school to experience the same fun development programme – contact Ake Hosea-Winterflood on 24759 or on 56456 and Malcolm Kajer on 75614.
