It’s here – the most eagerly anticipated cricket season yet.

Twenty-20 has the cricketing community buzzing as spectators are anticipating big hits and high energy squeezed into an action packed three hours this weekend.

Watch for long standing top four sides Turangi, Red Backs and the Creeps as they attempt to prove to supporters they have what it takes to continue their performances into the shorter format.

Last year’s champions the Titikaveka Titans have a nervous match –their nemesis Avatiu-Nikao is the only club they haven’t managed to beat in the past two years.

Takuvaine host a much improved under 19 Tupapa 2 side and Turangi’s away game to Arorangi will be of particular interest as the first insight into how well the top four clubs have adjusted to Twenty-20.

Matavera’s Ray Raumanu will be looking to carry forward his impressive pre season performances into this weekend’s match against top four side Muri.

Last year’s finalists are renowned for good starts to their season and will look to do the same when they play host to Matavera in Turangi.

But perhaps the most eagerly anticipated match of the weekend is between Tupapa and Avana.

It’s no secret the Tupapa side, which boasts some of the most exciting cricketers in the country, has not yet managed to win any silverware over the past two seasons. With stacks of batting fire power and a team designed for Twenty-20 all eyes are on the boys from Wale.

So come 2.45pm on Saturday – it’s ‘showtime’. Let’s see who survives and who dominates.
