The Edgewater women’s cricket season bowls off this Saturday with five teams in the hunt for the title.

Avana have the bye while national captain June George will lead her Turangi team over to Arorangi to take on Sabine Janneck’s Red Hot Chicks.

Long competitive foes, the match-up will prove both exciting and intense.

Air Raro Matavera take on Punanga Kaveao’s Muri side at Turangi oval.

Both sides boast plenty of national players so spectators can expect big hits, fast bowling and loads of energy.

Makiroa Mato is a player never short on energy and the national wicketkeeper will be doing her best to distract the Matavera batters with some good hearted sledging.

Matavera’s fiery opening pair Bene Matapo and Amelia Moetaua will be charging in hard with the new ball as the talented teenagers try to make early inroads into a tough and talented Muri batting line up.

It’s going to be a hot start to the season – don’t miss it. Edgewater women’s matches start at 12.30pm and the men at 2.45pm.
