Tupapa edge out Matavera 2-nil

In the main premier men’s football match on Saturday, Tupapa defeated Matavera by two goals to nil at Victoria Park.

Both goals were scored in the first half with the first by Twin Tiro who slid the ball past Matavera’s goal keeper in the 30th minute.

Tupapa’s second goal followed later through a penalty where Campbell Best comfortably placed it to the back of the net.

Although Tupapa dominated possession for most of the second half, they could not convert this into goals as the Matavera defence was solid with John Pareanga calling the shots at the back.

“It was frustrating at times when we couldn’t place those opportunities to the back of the net,” said Tupapa captain Mii Joseph.

“Matavera played well and hard to deny our chances, it was a good game.”

Tupapa Maraerenga proved too strong for Matavera in the CIPS Image & Copy Centre women’s competition as Tupapa beat Matavera by five goals to nil.

Tupapa youngster Moeroa Harmon slotted in three goals for her team while Tupapa’s remaining two goals were scored by striker Rai Nganu.

In the junior divisions, the under 14 girls match proved to be entertaining with both sides attacking at each other’s goal mouth but were unable to make them count, finishing their game with a nil-all draw.

In the under 14 boy’s game Matavera dominated Tupapa and crushed them by four goals to nil.

In the other football match played in the weekend at Raemaru Park, Nikao Sokattak overwhelmed Arorangi by five goals to one.
