The Avatiu Eels emerged the winners of the CITC Corporate Sevens tournament that wrapped up on Saturday at Teimurimotia Park in Titikaveka.

The cup final between the Eels and Stallions from Titikaveka was a closely fought battle with the Eels emerging 7-5 winners in the low scoring affair.

Just before the half time break of the final match, the Eels’ big mobile prop Joe Boaza scored the Eels’ lone try with the conversion by Peter Tare edging the Eels ahead to take the win.

Tare was one of the standout stars for the Eels along with the experienced head of Bruce Goldsworthy, barn storming Joe Boaza and speedy captain for the day Duane Gukisuva.

For the Stallions, team try scorer Bill Tangapiri worked hard for the team along with the long limbed Sai Nagi and Jame Tofilau.

In the Plate Final the Tabusoro Recyclers team led by Motu Mudromudro and Ilai Bideni had a comfortable win 27-5 against the Dragons.

The plate final was a try scoring bonanza for the Tabusoro Recyclers who outscored the Ngatangiia-Matavera Dragons to win 27-5.

The Recyclers were led by Motu Mudromudro and Ilai Bideni.

Top try scorer Fou Amate of the club sevens winning team the Takuvaine Reds dotted down 10 times to earn himself the player of the tournament award.

This tournament, which ran over two weekends, served its purpose as a final build up for local teams and corporate teams ahead of the marquee Cook Islands International Sevens in Heaven tournament kicking off this Thursday.

It was another great day of sevens action in Teimurimotia and make sure you don’t miss out on more action this weekend at the BCI Stadium.
