The title of the biggest catch of the season to date has been given to a 120kg blue marlin.

The Wahoo fishing charters caught the monster a mile and a half off the Edgewater Resort and Spa in Arorangi and it took three people to reel it in, in good time.

“It was a great team effort and it took just over 25 minutes for three of us to get our fish,” says the main man whose turn it was at the reel, Lance Eagle.

He is generous with sharing the accolades for hauling in the fish.

“It is a great crew and the home-baked cooking is fantastic,” says Eagle about the Wahoo team charters and the owners Glennis and Wayne Stewart who are from New Zealand originally, but are here to stay.

“We are Cookies now and we live here. We have owned the boat for six months but catching the marlin is pretty exciting,” says Glennis.

The marlin will be filleted and shared but for now the crew is happy with having caught the biggest catch of the season – so far.
