Cook Islands National 800m Champion Alex Beddoes was in action over the weekend as over 2000 of New Zealand’s best secondary schools athletes came together for the 2013 NZ Secondary Schools Athletic Champs in Hamilton, New Zealand.

Beddoes, in his final year at Sacred Heart College, was part of the Sacred Heart College 4x400m relay team that were crowned New Zealand Champions and in the process set a blistering new New Zealand record of 3:18:59, successfully defending their 2012 Title.

It was a tough week for the youngster, after being tripped in his 800m final, before recovering to place 4th in a time of 1:54.77.

“I was really gutted after my 800m final as I prepared really well to have a shot at winning the NZ title, but that’s racing, I’m just really glad to have pulled out a quick 400m for my part in our Relay final, and coming away with a NZ Title and NZ Record is pretty special” said Beddoes.

The Cook Islands Team attended the NZ Secondary Schools Champs and will be returning to Rarotonga today with more results.
