Local football pride will be at stake today when the remaining teams and clubs play for a place in next week’s semi-final.

At the Takitumu School grounds Matavera’s under 14 girls are scheduled to play Puaikura and history shows that Matavera has had the edge over Puaikura in both encounters during the round cup competition and will look to replicate that same outcome. Matavera again in the under 14 boys division is set to take on Titikaveka while Matavera’s senior women’s team square off against Tupapa Maraerenga.

In one of today’s featured premier men’s game the lads from happy valley will face Tupapa Maraerenga and usually these two rivals produce a competitive game.

At the other venue for today’s football contest, Raemaru Park Titikaveka’s under 14 girls will clash against Avatiu while Avatiu’s under 14 boys battle it out against Takuvaine.

In the senior women’s clash Titikaveka and Avatiu are set to fight it out. Titikaveka have shown dominance by winning their previous two games this season. A win for Avatiu will see their side qualify for the semi-finals which has been out of the norm for Avatiu for many years.

The second premier men’s contest will see Nikao Sokattak take on Titikaveka at Raemaru Park.

Nikao’s ‘quick passing’ combination and the youthful exuberance of under 17 men players should be enough to see them through.
