PORT MORESBY – Port Moresby’s police chief N’dranou Perou say his men will be out in full force to prevent any further protests in regard to the current political turmoil.

“Based on the law, no request has been received from anyone to stage another protest,” Supt Perou said, “It will be illegal to do so.”

Supt Perou is urging the general public to carry on with their normal activities.

He thanked the media for the fair reporting and dissemination of facts, the initial protest organising committee for their good leadership and the general public for staging a “very peaceful assembly” on Tuesday, in relation to the current political saga.

Supt Perou confirmed that police will not allow any more protests or demonstrations.

“We cannot influence the decisions of the judiciary, it is undemocratic,” said Supt Perou.

He said that another reason why further protest is not welcomed by the police because intelligence he had received said that if a protest is to eventuate; the situation would most likely get out of hand, unlike the previous protest.

“Police will be out in full force and will not tolerate any opportunists who want to take advantage of the situation to cause any disturbance and disharmony to the normal business operations in the city,” he said.

“The police are here to ensure that lives and properties are protected which is the paramount objective.”
