No team had won three titles or successfully defended a World Cup crown until New Zealand did both with a 34-17 victory over the Wallabies on Saturday night at Twickenham.
From the moment retiring fly half Dan Carter slotted a long-range drop goal in the second half, New Zealanders knew the game was over and won.
The celebrations here will no doubt continue well into the week as New Zealanders prepare to welcome back their World Champions and the Webb Ellis Cup for another four years.
New Zealand captain Richie McCaw refused to contemplate retirement after leading the All Blacks to back-to-back World Cup wins. Asked by reporters if he would retire he said: “I still don’t want it to end. I’m still part of this team, I’m going to enjoy today, how can you have enough of this?”. - PNC
