PAPUA NEW GUINEA – PNG Prime Minister Peter O’Neill arrived in Port Moresby from Brisbane, Australia, under tight security ahead of a vote of no confidence in parliament.

On the tarmac to meet him after Papua New Guinea’s VIP Kumul Falcon jet touched down at the Jackson International Airport were several ministers, government officials and police hierarchy who spoke briefly with him before he left under heavy police escort.

The airport was cleared and a police roadblock set up at the entrance to the international terminal.

More than 10 police vehicles were seen either parked or patrolling the parameters of the terminal until the arrival of the government-owned aircraft.

It is understood several commercial flights were “cancelled” to prepare for the arrival of the prime minister but that could not be verified with the National Airports Corporation, according to the Post-Courier.

The prime minister was in Australia when members of the fraud squad swooped in and arrested National and Supreme Court Sir Bernard Sakora and Attorney-General and Justice Minister Ano Pala earlier this week. - Post-Courier
