NORTHERN MARIANAS – Construction companies which built the Imperial Pacific Resort on Saipan have been ordered to pay $13.9 million in back wages and damages to thousands of Chinese construction workers.

The US Department of Labor determined that the companies paid their workforce less than the minimum wage and not enough overtime.

The four China-based construction contractors involved in the project have agreed to reimburse more than 2400 employees.

Hong Kong-based Imperial Pacific International, which owns the unfinished resort, says it is pleased the workers’ claims have been resolved.
