Massey High School student Alyssa Bult said the 25-page handbook from the Drug Foundation was not taught to them, but available for research. The booklet included a 10-point guide on ways to keep well if using meth.
“I didn’t look at the 10-point guide and think I have to go home and try meth,” Bult said. “We weren’t focusing on how to use meth, we were focusing on it’s impact and what users could do to seek help and end their addiction.”
Massey High School principal Glen Denham said the booklet was appropriate for 17 to 18-year-old students.
“Some of these students voted last year to decide who was going to govern our country yet people don’t think they can research a drug problem in this country,” Denham said. “We discredit our brilliant, young people. They are discerning and awesome and to think that a couple of pages would influence them to use meth is not the case at all.”
