The game of the night was an exciting tit-for-tat affair between evenly matched Team Tuaanga Taporoporo and Vodafone, said touch president Daphnie Brown.
The teams were led well by national reps Tekura Moekaa and Julz Westrupp, both talking to their speedy guys.
Some good go-forward and strong settles from George Ellis of Tuaanga Taporoporo to tire out the Vodafone defence saw one of the Tuaanga Taporoporo speedsters break away to score taking their team into the lead.
But a determined Vodafone chipped away and locked up the scores at 3-all. Both teams worked hard on attack and defence.
But in the dying minutes of the game it was Vodafone that caught a retiring Tuaanga Taporoporo player off-side to run through the gap to break the deadlock, taking Vodafone into the lead, four touchdowns to three.
KAPS proved too strong for an exciting young Mangaia side, Brown said.
And a courageous Team BSP took on the much quicker and experienced ICI Transformers, with “the Boss” leading the way for BSP. But the bank team was unable to convert their hard work into points.
Stalwarts Team 007 and young guns Team ATT made a good start, but in the second half Team 007 found its rhythm to set up their team moves on the 5 metres, scoring some great tries. Team 007 won easily, 7 tries to Team ATT’s 1.
This week sees the Vodafone Cook Islands Mens and Womens competition play their last round games, before heading into the finals series. All teams will be pushing hard for a win to improve their standings on the points table.
