The first-plate semi was a bit anticlimactic, as Team Transport won by default, while the second-plate semi was an exciting clash of the Mangaians, Team ATT against Mangaia.
Both teams used their speed and ball movement well, but it was a hungry Team Mangaia that made the best of its opportunities, running out victors over the younger Team ATT by one point.
As predicted, the cup semi-final games were incredibly close.
First up was top of the table ICI Transformers versus fourth-placed NukzPower in a tit-for-tat game.
The wet field made the playing conditions difficult, with neither team able to showcase their usual speed and stepping, and at fulltime the game was tied up one-all.
To determine a winner the game went into an exciting extra-time drop-off, with ICI Transformers kicking off. ICI worked its six touches well and topped it off by scoring.
It was then NukzPower’s kick-off to make the best of its opportunity to equalise.
They were unable to cash in on the chance however, losing to ICI two touchdowns to one.
The last game of the afternoon was the second cup semi-final between Foodland and 007, which was played into the gathering darkness.
It was a tight game between these two evenly matched teams, but it was Foodland’s solid defence that restricted the 007 young guns’ scoring opportunities, and managed to hold to their lead, eventually ending in a 3-2 win for Foodland.
The Bluesky Mixed Touch finals will be played on Wednesday at Nikao Field and we are expecting some very close games to finish a great season of mixed touch.
Results: Aroa T Bags 8 v Live Smart 1, NukzPower 1 v ICI Transformers 2, Team Transport 5 v Elegi 0, Team ATT 3 v Mangaia 4, Foodland 3 v 007 2.
