The opening men’s game saw the young Team ATT boys take on the speedy Manatoa. A determined ATT impressed by being able to keep up with the Manatoa boys, who just managed to hold them off by six touchdowns to four.
In their second game, Manatoa got some good agility training for their up and coming sevens tournament, but the GAT touch skills proved too much.
Despite a lot of speed displayed by both teams, GAT was able to finish off the match with a 9-4 win.
In the last men’s game, Team Transport showed some good determination to stay close to the Germinators, who looked like they were going to run away with the game.
However some good individual tries from Team Transport kept them in it and a final flurry resulted in a try, tying the game up at five-all.
The opening women’s game was an evenly matched affair. Both teams scoring tit for tat with the fast-paced game ending in a three-all draw. It was also good to see some local imports taking part in the women’s competition.
The second women’s game was an exciting one between FBI Reds and FBI Green, with both teams wanting the win.
It was FBI Reds that got on the board first through their speedster Teretia Teinaki, who used her speed to gas it around the FBI Green winger.
However, FBI Green continued to plug away at the FBI Reds defence to finally equalise, with Simone Nicholas scooting across the tryline.
With their confidence up, the FBI Green youngsters went on a scoring spree – Kaiya Atai showing off some outstanding play and bagging two tries from excellent setups to seal the 5-2 win for FBI Green over their sister team.
Next week is the playoffs for the Bluesky Men’s and Women’s Competition, while the Bluesky Mixed Touch Competition will be held today.
