Following on from the successful Bluesky Boxing Day Touch Tournament late last month, the Cook Islands Touch Association has organised muster competitions on Monday and Wednesday next week at the Nikao Field.
The competition, which will start from 5pm, is open to men’s, women’s, mixed, masters and juniors teams who are keen for a run.
“This is an opportunity for teams to play an opposition in a friendly game,” said Cook Islands Touch president Daphne Brown.
“The muster is also a chance for anyone interested and wanting to play but not in a team to come and have a run and join a team.”
The season competition officially begins from January 23 and will be played over two nights on Mondays and Wednesdays.
With the Cook Islands Games due to be held this year, Brown said it would also be a chance for players wanting to represent their islands to get some game time in preparation for the event through their weekly competition.
“It would be a good idea for island team managers to enter their island teams in the men’s, women’s or mixed competitions.”
Brown said they would also have a social mixed competition to cater for teams that just wanted to play for fun.
“This division will also cater for teams that don’t really know how to play touch. It is also great for family teams, church groups, youth groups and corporate teams looking for a fun team bonding activity and getting some exercise at the same time.
“Touch is a family game that can be played by anyone of any age.”
Registration for the 2018 season in the open men’s, women’s and mixed, social mixed, masters and juniors is now open.
Interested teams can contact either Daphne Brown on 54171, June Putere on 53361 and Simi Teiotu on 57746 to register and for more details regarding the muster and season competitions.
