The Bluesky Touch Competition heads into round two today at Nikao field.

After a grand start to the season last week, the open men’s and women’s teams will be battling it out in another round of exciting competition this afternoon.

This will be followed by the mixed round two competition which will be held on Wednesday.

The mixed round one last week saw an interesting matches against new and old teams vying for the title this season.

Newcomers Rehab Rascals took on the MFEM bean counters in one of the interesting clashes on Wednesday.

The security guys and bar staff were as quick on field as they are in the nightclub proving to be a handful for the MFEM bean counters.

The Rehab Rascal managed to win the opener 6-0.

On field two, the seasoned NT Aroa took on a youthful Team ATT with Rairoa brothers combining well to boost the number of NT Aroa touchdowns.

Although the game was won by NT Aroa with an impressive score of 14 -2, the much younger Team ATT impressed the officials with their play.

In a tit-for-tat battle between Mangaia and Nukz Power, the hard working James Nand of Mangaia was the toast for the side after breezing past the opposition defence on several occasions with his speed, step and ball skills to help edge out Nukz Power  4-3.

Defending champs 007 had a jittery start their title defence campaign with four dropped balls in the first 10 minutes of their game against TB.

It took the experience and leadership of their national rep Andy Kapi to get their campaign back on track and win 7-2.

“Standing out for 007 was young Adyn, Arii and sisters Maeva and Mele Poaru. To their credit, TB held 007 to a one touchdown difference in the first half but failed to hold them out in the second half,” Cook Island Touch president Daphne Brown said.

Southcoast Scorpions and ICI Transformers also had a shaky to the season in another interesting duel.

However, it was Southcoast Scorpions that settled down under the guidance of Peter Marsters, showing their experience through good team work to win the match 7-3.

Brown said ICI Transformers which struggled during the match showed glimpses of their speed and skill, indicating they would return stronger in the upcoming rounds.

Meanwhile, the Top Kopz failed to get its team to the field giving Bluesky an easy win in round one.

In today’s round, the mixed teams Rehab and Bluesky will be playing their Wednesday game due to a pending concert.
