The 2016/17 Cook Islands Touch season will get underway next month.
“We want to ensure teams get enough time to rest in between their matches and that’s the reason for cutting the teams down to 16,” Teiotu said.
“There will be some social teams and some teams who are eyeing serious competition to prepare themselves for the upcoming season.”
Teiotu said teams which were yet to pay their registration fee would have to clear their dues before their games.
The registration fee is $120 with a nominated team referee. There is an additional $40 fee for those teams that do not provide a nominated referee.
“Bluesky has come on board this year to sponsor us for the next three years.
“We thank Philip Henderson, Bluesky country manager, and his team for this timely support.”
The telecommunication company yesterday presented in kind sponsorship worth about $5000.
The sponsorship include three trophies, two mobile phones worth close to $2000 for the most valuable players male and female, top up worth $2000 and uniforms for officials.
The tournament will kick off at 9.30am.
