Touch rugby season gets underway today

The 2016 Cook Islands touch rugby season is set to start today at Nikao Field.

After a successful Boxing Day Touch tournament in December last year, the organisers are hoping for a positive start to their domestic season.

Cook Islands Touch Association president Daphne Brown said today’s matches would be a pre-season muster for teams before the season begins proper next week.

The open men’s and women’s teams will feature in today’s competition while open and social mixed teams will play on Wednesday.

“Monday’s muster gives teams a chance to have a game, dust off the boots, practice moves before getting into the full swing of competition points next week,” Brown said.

“The muster also gives those that are still thinking about registration an opportunity to do so.”

Registration is still open for any others that wish to join the competition.

They are requested to turn up at Nikao Field for a game.

For those that are keen to play but do not have a team, they are also welcome to come down to Nikao Field for a game and to make their interest known.

“The competition organisers will be more than happy to get you into a team,” Brown added.
