The annual Boxing Day Touch tournament brought some exciting competition and provided clubs with a timely build-up before the season begins proper.
Association president Daphne Brown said the regular touch season would kick off on Monday next week.
The season will start with the open men’s and women’s competition followed by the open mixed and social mixed competition on Wednesday.
“Touch will be played at Nikao Field, starting 5pm in the afternoon. The competition will run for 12 weeks and is open to anyone,” Brown said.
“All those keen to play in this season’s competition are to register their teams with either June Putere, Daphne Brown or Lora Tauira.
“This is a good opportunity for other codes that are wanting to get in some early fitness and be ready for their upcoming competitions.”
While competition is vibrant in the open men’s and women’s and open mixed grades, it’s the social mixed touch which has become a star attraction lately.
Brown said social mixed touch was ideal for businesses who were after activities to help them with team bonding.
She added it was also ideal for those who were new to the sport.
“For the last few touch seasons, the social mixed competition has become popular.
“It is a great grade for groups or friends, even workplaces that are just wanting to play and have some fun, or for those that don’t quite know the game but want to get some exercise.
“Organisations, government departments, businesses have used the social mixed competition as a team building exercise for their staff.”
