In a David versus Goliath battle, Puaikura will be hoping to pull off a major upset against hot favourites Titikaveka in the women’s football Knockout Cup semifinal today.
The two teams will battle it out in the opening semis at CIFA Complex in Matavera at 5pm.
The Titikaveka senior women have been in great form, winning seven out of their last eight matches in the 2019 football competition. They have won their last two encounters against their opponents Puaikura.
Puaikura, on the other hand, have won only three matches from their last eight. However, these are the knockout stages and any result is possible.
Titikaveka head coach Theresa Tatuava said her side had prepared well for this crucial match.
“We are preparing for this match like every match, one game at a time, key thing for us is playing as a team and each player sharing the work load and supporting each other,” Tatuava said.
Puaikura coach Joel Pokura said injuries to some key players was their major concern.
“We would have preferred a Saturday game as we still have players attending to injuries but we will ready to bring our game and we will come out and enjoy our 2019 season.”
In lead up to the Titikaveka versus Puaikura clash, the under-14 semifinal match will be held.
Nikao Sokattak U14 boys will take on arch-rivals Tupapa Maraerenga for a place in the final,
Nikao surprised their Titikaveka opponents last week defeating them for the first time this season 1-0.
The Nikao U14 boys have been regarded as underdogs throughout the season Tupapa will not take them lightly in today’s match.
