Nikao Sokattak made themselves right at home, scoring four times in the first half and went on to win 6-1 over Matavera on Saturday at the Nikao sports field.

Nikao Sokattak got on the board in the first six minutes thanks to Julius David. David capitalised on a defensive breakdown and saw the Matavera goalkeeper was leaning far to his left, shooting the ball into the empty right corner of the net to put Nikao Sokattak up 1-0.

Nikao Sokattak kept the pressure on and four minutes later David scored his second goal of the day. Julius fought his way to the right side of the keeper’s box and headed down across from Okirua Thompson to make the score 2-0.

Matavera re-centered following Nikao’s second goal and forced the attack the opposite way. Matavera scored their lone goal of the day in the 10th minute thanks to Daryl Areai. Paul Luiz Van Eijk headed a through ball and Areai came up with the easy finish.

The 20th minute saw James Ossyramo get on the board. Ossyramo took a shot while in close to the net. Warren Ngamata made a lunge to stop the shot but it slid through his fingers and continued into the net to put Nikao Sokattak up 3-1.

The 40th minute saw Julius David secure the hat trick with a run-in that mirrored his second goal. The point put Nikao Sokattak up 4-1.

Matavera came out hot in the second but it did not show up on the scoreboard. Daryl and Paul Luiz each put shots on goal in the 47th and 50th minutes, but the chances were within Siana Short’s reach.

Chances were few from both sides in the remaining minutes of the contest. Nikao Sokattak’s final goals of the day came in the 82nd and 84th minute with Tahiri Elikana recording his first two goals of the season and closing out the win.

In the other premier men’s matches, Avatiu was not able to hold on to its 2-1 lead over top seed Tupapa Maraerenga in their midweek clash. In an exciting encounter the match ended in a 2-2 draw. Puaikura defeated Titikaveka 4-1.
